How to crack Windows passwords

Be cool, I am not encoraging no one to start a life in the dark side of IT. Many times admins or users have a server or a computer that has accounts and need to know their passwords. For example: a ftp server with a lot of created accounts that people from other companies use. It is not an option call to call to 300 or 1000 users telling that their passwords changed when you need to upgrade server’s hardware or operating system.

Until some time ago I used, when I needed, a shareware software called L0phCrack, that was discontinued on 2006. Beside the shareware problem, after some time it stops to work, LOphCrack crack passwords using brute force method. It takes hours to crack them.

I needed some days ago again and tried to find another software in the internet and I found Ophcrack. It is a Open Source, free and crack passwords using a dictionary of hashes. It is much faster than L0phCrack, almost 8 times in my case.

ophcrack.png, brake, password, solution, quebrar, senha, windows, solução, grátis, open source, código aberto, gratuito, free of chargeTo crack passwords you will need to have access to SAM and SECURITY files of the target machine. There are stored accounts and hashes of passwords. The install files of Ophcrack are not big, but the tables are huge, starting from 360 MB up to 8 GB. Smaller tables can be used to crack simple passwords that uses letters and numbers. Bigger ones are used to crack complex passwords. It Can looks a lot to download but belive me, if you need to crack complex passwords using brute force method will take much longer than the download time…

Wanna test? Click on ophcrack.sourceforge.net. There is also a bootable version that allows you to access SAM and SECURITY files with out any program install on target computer.

  3. here is the methods I know.

The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account “Administrator” and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget Your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys Twice and it’ll show Classic Login box. Now type “Administrator” (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from “Control Panel -> User Accounts”.
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recover forgotten Password by using “Reset Disk”. If you created a Password Reset Disk in Past, you can use that disk to reset the password. To know more about It, please visit http://www.resetwindowspassword.com/

  4. If you forget the administrator’s password but still can log on Windows with other user names that have administrative privileges, you may follow the instructions below:

Right click the computer icon on your desktop, select Manage, find Local Users and Groups, unfold Users folder, right click Administrator, click Set password… in the menu comes up. Click Proceed in the dialog, in the pop-up, enter a New Password and confirm it. Your administrator’s password is successfully reset.

Guest account may help to log onto Windows, but it has no privilege for you to do the above to reset the administrator’s password.

If you forgot all user passwords and failed to log onto Windows, there is no other way but to format the OS and reinstall Windows, or resort to sort of software tools to remove the password and log onto Windows. These programs cost some bucks, but are worthy and better than to reinstall the OS causing consequences. The most popular programs are Windows Password Reset 6.0 etc. Generally, these programs are easy to use though turn out to be a scary command prompt to newbie. But do relax and you can fully manipulate. Let’s take Windows Password Reset 6.0 for example. You prepare a blank CD, burn the program onto the CD, boot the locked computer from the CD, come to initiate the program, locate the user name, and proceed to remove its password – all are at ease.
